No, the Over the Hill demo is not available right now. It ran on Steam during Next Fest in June 2026, Funselektor kept it online until June 29, 2026 at 12 PM CEST, and the team confirmed on June 30 that demo access had officially closed.
A new demo is possible but not promised: the official FAQ says there may be a demo closer to release. Until then, the only way to play before launch is a limited playtest, and the full game arrives on Steam on October 14, 2026.
What the demo was
The demo was part of Steam Next Fest in June 2026. Funselektor’s wrap-up post thanked players for joining the journey through Emerald Lake, the area the demo covered, and suggested unlocking the last vehicle or finding a final scenic spot before it closed. PCGamingWiki, a community wiki, lists the Next Fest window as June 12 to 22, 2026; Funselektor then extended access to June 29.
Why it went offline
In its August 2026 update, Funselektor said it would have loved to keep the demo running, but wanted it to represent the game at its best, and that maintaining a demo build and free servers worldwide was not feasible for a small team before launch. The team offered a limited playtest instead.
Will demo saves carry over?
Probably, but it is not guaranteed. Both the Next Fest wrap-up and the official FAQ say the plan is for demo save files to be compatible with the full game, while stressing that a lot is still being finalised. Until Funselektor confirms it, keep anything related to your demo progress rather than cleaning it up.
How to get a demo if one returns
If Funselektor releases another demo, it will appear on the official Steam page. There is no demo on the Steam page at the time of writing.
- Open the Over the Hill page on Steam.
- Look for a “Download demo” option next to the wishlist button; Steam only shows it while a demo is live.
- Install it from your Steam library like any other game.
- Follow the Steam announcements or the Funselektor Discord for news of a new demo.
Skip unofficial demo downloads
The demo was distributed through Steam, and the full game will be sold through official stores. A file offered on a third-party download site is not the official demo, and it may carry malware. The download guide lists the official options for each platform.
The alternative: playtests
Funselektor runs limited playtests with sign-ups in its Discord server. The August 2026 playtest was capped at a few hundred players and its sign-up closed on August 17; the team says one last playtest is planned before launch.
